Hi, I’m John and this is my about page.
I’ll approach this by starting with where my attention and focus has tended towards lately.
I’m particularly interested in areas where mechanism design and system design intersect for the purposes of generating large scale postive outcomes.
Through that lens, I view monetary system design as being a particularly high leverage activity.
To that end, I am one of the founders of Towards Type Two, a recently formed blockchain and crypto protocol development company.
Prior to all this, my professional experience had been primarily a mixture of software engineering and poker.
Poker is an atypical résumé item, so a bit of context is in order. I did poker for many years, initially starting with it professionally after dropping out of college. Along the way, I worked my way up the ranks into high stakes games in Hold’em and Omaha, in both Heads-Up and shorthanded play.
Poker offered me the opportunity to travel a great deal and I have spent time in a variety of different places. Most notably, I have lived for a year or longer in the following cities: Buenos Aires, New York City, Mexico City, and Miami.
As to what I value, family is very important to me.
Meditation has been something peppered throughout my adult life and I have sat over a dozen different meditation retreats with different flavors of meditation. Of those, I have found the retreats at Dhamma Sukha and their style to be the most enjoyable and fruitful for me. The result of all this has naturally settled into me being Buddhist… ha, which at this point, I’m pretty cool with.
For the fun type stuff, nothing tops the joy of dancing. Reading, writing, programming, swimming, and weightlifting are all quite excellent too.
